A while ago, an amazing awesome friend brought me yarn when I was feeling down (it's here if you want to look). And it was more than the fact that she gave me yarn, but was really that she reached out when I needed it the most.
Anyway, I finally finished the socks. First, I have to tell you, I often knit in public and so people ask what I'm knitting and who is it for. You can not understand how exciting it was to say "Socks. Just for me. Because a friend gave me this yarn and so they have to be for me!" Because, as so many crafters know, sometimes, you feel like you spend most of your time making things for others - for baby showers, wedding gifts, birthday, holidays, etc. And sometimes you don't always make yourself something because there are others you need to create for first.
Well, people, not this time. This time I knit all for me and enjoyed every moment of it.
So without further ado, here are my completed socks - the pattern is named Happy Feet, and I do have happy feet, but I have an even happier heart!
I really didn't mean to stop blogging, to walk away. But, life does unfortunately get in the way sometimes.
I'm quite busy over at The Motherhood most days too and then I just need to step away from the computer for the rest of the day!
Anyway, summer is almost here and that makes my heart sing songs of joy! I got a bit of a burn sitting outside on Friday - and that was heavenly! I know, strange right - to think a sun burn is a good thing, but sitting in the sun, with the kids playing around me, oh, it was fantastic! I believe I might be seriously ready to leave the Chicagoland area right now - if we could move somewhere where the sun was out more often!
We've been hit recently by the whole bad economy thing - thankfully not as badly as we could have been. Hubby took a pay cut, so we've been readjusting monthly spending. You'll probably hear chatter for a bit about coupons, being frugal and other ways to save money. But, my husband has a job (and we have insurance) and that is something to be truly grateful for! I may complain about lack of spending money here and there, but know that I do know how lucky we are it was only a pay cut!
We've recently been making videos at our house! I will randomly be linking some of them here. I admit it, I've been having fun! I've learned how to edit them, splice them, put them back together - not if I only I could learn to not shake the camera so much or sound like such a nerd in them I'd be all set. But keep your eyes out for them in the coming weeks. My 9 year old and I have been trying to do some how to kids craft videos, which I must admit had been a blast to have that with her! =)
And now, I will bombard you with pictures, so I hope you enjoy them!

Sears Tower picture which we took in case we don't get back downtown before the big name change!
We had another first in our house yesterday .. our first broken bone. It was full of all the drama and chaos and crying and tears that you would expect from a 9 year old girl!
She was riding her scooter with neighborhood friends when it got stuck and down she went. Of course, it was at the 5:00 hour. She insisted to me that she broke her wrist - and I was believing her (despite her drama queen tendencies, she was acting and complaining in ways I have never seen before) so I called hubby and told him COME HOME NOW!
The two of them went off to the Urgent Care where the x-ray confirmed that she had fractured her wrist. The fracture is pretty far across the bone and a little bit more would have been a complete break.
She came home wrapped up and with a sling. Tomorrow we will call to try to get a cast. She is already set on having a pink one and has insisted after the cast we immediately go buy a marker so everyone can sign it. All in all, she held up pretty well when she got home. She is, however, bummed that she can't participate in swimming, diving, or other such activities. But, this mom is grateful that it wasn't any worse than a fractured wrist.
Well, maybe not that busy, but it feels busy to me! Lots of knitting going on, and driving, and swim lessons, and piano lessons, and shopping and all sorts of stuff like that. I wish I had pictures to show you, but alas I don't. Someday ...
Anyway, today we had fun! My cousin called earlier in the week to see if I could help her make curtains. Sure, no problem, yeah, come on over, I said! Totally forgetting the part where, you know, I've NEVER made curtains before in my life! LOL! Today she bought the fabric, twice! Because the first fabric went out the window when we went shopping again to get a liner for it and she walked to the canvas and said (so wisely) that couldn't she use that and then we wouldn't need a liner? Yes! And yes, that would be easier since I've also never used liner on curtains LOL!
Then we came home nad started to cut it. Except I was being stupid and took forever and then didn't even cut it right (it started right at the top and somehow gained 2 inches of width by the end. Oops). But she left and I finished cutting and also the fabric lost it's 2 extra inches. I'm under strict orders to not just sew them for her - which was totally what I was going to do but apparently my cousin is a mind reader and she knew! LOL! I just cut them, so when she comes over, they'll be ready to be sewn. Okay, okay, I plan to iron them too, but that's okay, because I only promised to not finish them and ironing is not finishing them right.
If she lets me, I'll show you the finished the product. But I think once we get started it will feel less scary. And it would feel a lot less scary if I were making them for say, my kid's room because I could screw them up and that would be okay ... which has me thinking that both the kids' rooms need new curtains so if this goes well, I think I will be making more. And if this doesn't go well ... well, they haven't noticed they need new curtains so the old ones will stay LOL! =)
Things have seemed really surreal lately. There is more bad news than good, which can certainly wear on a person and definitely does wear on me.
But, this song is one I listen to in order to help me feel a bit better about things. So I'm sharing it with you!
We Live by Superchick
There's a cross on the side of the road
Where a mother lost a son
How could she know that the morning he left
Would be the last time she'd trade with him for a little more time
So she could say she loved him one last time
And hold him tight
But with life we never know
When we're coming up to the end of the road
So what do we do then
With tragedy around the bend?
We live we love
We forgive and never give up
Cuz the days we are given are gifts from above
And today we remember to live and to love
We live we love
We forgive and never give up
Cuz the days we are given are gifts from above
And today we remember to live and to love
There's a man who waits for the tests
To see if the cancer has spread yet
And now he asks, "So why did I wait to live till it was time to die?"
If I could have the time back how I'd live
Life is such a gift
So how does the story end?
Well this is your story and it all depends
So don't let it become true
Get out and do what we were meant to do
We live we love
We forgive and never give up
Cuz the days we are given are gifts from above
And today we remember to live and to love
We live we love
We forgive and never give up
Cuz the days we are given are gifts from above
And today we remember to live and to love
Waking up to another dark morning
People are mourning
The weather in life outside is storming
But what would it take for the clouds to break
For us to realize each day is a gift somehow, someway?
So get our heads up out of the darkness
And spark this new mindset and start to live life cuz it ain't gone yet
And tragedy is a reminder to take off the blinders
And wake up and live the life we're supposed to take up
Moving forward with all our heads up cuz life is worth living
We live we love
We forgive and never give up
Cuz the days we are given are gifts from above
And today we remember to live and to love
