Special Project

This week I am working on a very special project that was a request from a friend. So I'll probably be scarce.

With that said, I'll leave some shots of recent finished projects for you all to admire!

That's my sister wearing this prayer shawl. It was my graduation gift to her. She left for college a few weeks ago. I hope she took it with and I hope that she uses it to cuddle up with whenever she may need it!

Knitted socks (not for me though!). My mom asked me to knit them for another relative. So I did! My aunt called and thanked me. I just hope they fit her and they keep her toes nice and warm!

And now for some non-craft items ... last week we made pasta. Yes, made pasta!

Me cutting it - which I wasn't so great at honestly.

Hanging on the hanger. A lot of the pieces actually ended up breaking and falling off.

But, it still tasted yummy!! (also, I'd like to add I made the sauce from tomatoes I canned and zucchini fresh from the garden and that the beans were also fresh from the garden - and my little garden doesn't produce much, but what we do pick from it makes my heart soar!!)

The best compliment I got was from my 6 year old M. She said, and I quote "Wow mom. It tastes like real pasta! Good job!" So cute and I guess they must have been nervous about how it was going to taste ;-)

Anyway, hopefully I'll be back at the end of the week with som fun stuff to show you! =)

My garden ...

My garden has suddenly sprung into action. Things are growing, and most of it VERY quickly. All seeds have now sprouted (we were worried about the carrots, but alas, they have popped up!).

My mouth waters as I look at it - hoping for a good yield of yummy vegetables as the summer continues on. No fruits for us this year. We do have strawberry plants, but chances are they won't grow anything until next year, or the year after. I wish things would start sprouting now, but I also know good things come to those who wait!

But, along with all the plants growing - the weeds are growing as well! I need to get in there and pull those suckers out! Except it rained a lot yesterday and so tomorrow, hopefully the ground will be a bit dryer and I can get out there and take care of those pesky little weeds. Surprisingly, I am looking forward to it.

This might be the first time I have ever been excited to weed - but something happened this year while I was planting the garden. I fell in love with the earth, with the plants, with the soil. And my garden feels like my baby. And I want to tend it and take care of it and keep it growing! And so tomorrow I will go out there (hopefully) and take care of my newest little baby. I will admire the plants growing and dream about all the wonderful items that will be on our table soon because of our hard work in the garden over the course of the summer!

Today ...

Worked outside almost all day long - aside from nursing babyboy (I had a teen helper here holding him for me a lot otherwise I would have hardly done anything). My mom came over to help me - together we cleared, we dug up stuff, we transplanted things, we clipped items and we rotatilled areas. Tomorrow I need to take pictures, but really I should have taken pictures yesterday to show the difference in the areas we worked today. The scary thing is that we didn't even do probably half of the places that need to be cleared up. And although we moved somethings (hostas and daffodils) we pretty much just prepared areas to be planted. I have a feeling the whole yard will not be finished this year. No, I take it back ... I know the entire yard will not be finished this year. There is no way. If I did all that I wanted to, trees and huge bushes would be taken out of this yard and I know that won't happen. So I just need to work around those areas. And even assuming I have to skip that part, I'm sure other parts will be skipped as well.
But, considering some of these areas haven't been touched we are guessing for maybe 5 years - other parts just 3 years - well, we made good progress. Bless my mom because she helped out tremendously. I admit it fully I had no clue what I was doing. I didn't even know some of the things out there were weeds and not real plants! Nice, huh? LOL!!!

Also wanted to add thanks to Lottafor the suggestion on the yarn. I will have to look into some patterns. I can see me wearing the white - but I'm not a big wearer of blue ... but maybe it might be something to knit for someone else. I'm pondering it ... although I'm also wondering if I can simply use the white for me and dye it another color? Hmmm ... so many things to ponder! LOL!!! So, yeah, if anyone else has suggestions/advice I'm still open to it LOL!

Gardening ...

Okay, so all of a sudden I think I want to have a beautiful garden. I know it's a little late to start this year to figure things out. I will, however, probably put in some impatients around the border to throw in some color for the summer.
But, if I wanted to learn about gardening and get ideas for gardens, where would I look? I realize the last 3 times I have asked for opinions, I recieved only one reply to one of them ... but I am hoping just a few passer-byers can offer some advice!!

On a knitting note, I did go out to the stitch and bitch last night! FUN FUN FUN! I think I had more fun talking than knitting. Just three of us there, but the conversation was great! I'm glad I went! And I did make a little bit of progress on my baby cardi. I want to finish it fast all of a sudden though becuase I keep browsing other blogs/books/magazines and there are about 2 million projects I would like to do one day!! Eventually, I will have to compile a list and figure out which one to do next!
