Secret Knitting ...

So, we had 10 hours in the car this weekend. I didn't even manage to finish the back to one child-sized sweater. Possibly because 1) I slept for most of the way there since I got hit with some major car sickness and the dramimine always knocks me out.
The way home was mostly in the dark ... I am such a crazy woman, at one point I had a flashlight on to see and I did have the overhead lights on whenever dh said they wouldn't be in the way of trying to drive (which I thought was illegal, but he didn't so we went with his opinion).
Anyway, it's secret knitting just in case the person who gets it shows up here (although I doubt it, but I did share the link!)
So I'm using Microspun yarn and look at what it is doing ...


I can not make it stop doing that. It is crazy. I pull it, start again, and it just looks like that. Probably I shouldn't, but I'm just going to keep knitting away and try to pretend like I did it on purpose?
Or maybe when it gets washed it will look more normal? I have no idea ... but I'll keep plugging along.
This is meant to be a Christmas present so I hope in the end it does look okay.

I had to last because I really think this is just one big old boring blog. And to see someone say "I'm simply full of respect" cracks me up! LOL!

In knitting news ... still plugging away at the baby sweater. The more I look at it though, the more I think it's not what I want to give the person I am making it for (who is having a little girl). It doesn't seem girlish to me, but I have a friend having a boy and I think I will be giving it to her instead. So it's okay that I made it, but now I have to find a girly sweater!

Introducing ....

the newest knitter ....
Just learned today ... she's making a scarf.
I think she's a natural and she really picked up on it pretty quickly. However, when she started to try to go "fast" she was getting extra stitches! But aside from that, she did great. She is determined to finish it by Christmas so we'll see how it goes!


This is her progress for the day.
I did do the cast on row though ... wasn't ready to explain that to her yet.
For a child who doesn't like to sit for too long, I was impressed at how long she did sit and work on it!

Still plugging along ...

on that sweater! I have all the pieces done ... now I'm working on the collar.
I hope to have it finished this week. We will be taking a road trip over the weekend and I have a new project I'd like to start for that trip, so I have lots of motivation to finish this sweater.

And thanks to a sale at Target, no sewing of a skirt needed - I found one that worked perfectly for what I wanted and was pretty inexpensive - which is always nice. The only thing is that if I lose a few inches (my current goal) it won't fit anymore and so then I will have to alter this one, or sew one anyway LOL!

Not as fast as I had hoped ...

Well, I had hoped today I would have the sweater almost done - just a little bit to finish.
But it seems that I am not making as much progress as I had hoped.
One because we were out of the house all day today and two because we were out of the house a lot yesterday.
And it seems I suddenly need to make a black skirt to wear on Saturday night.
So the poor little sweater gets set aside. I will try to finish one sleeve tonight and hopefully whip up a simple black skirt tomorrow to be able to get back to little sweater Thursday!
We'll see how that plan goes!

Progress ....

Today I managed to finish the back and just start one of the front pieces.
I'm happy I finished the back and surprised that I did as well!
At this rate, it won't be finished by Monday without me ignoring kids and household duties this weekend ...
But I think I can get it done by Thanksgiving, which is not bad either!

Something old ....

The ballet sweater is blocking ...
or shall I say, half of the ballet sweater is blocking as I don't have enough pins to do the whole thing at the same time!

Something new ...

Started tonight during Grey's anatomy. I have knitted a whopping 9 rows of the back piece ... only 73 more rows on the back, two fronts, and two sleeves to go.
The goal is to finish it by Monday. I almost laugh thinking about it ... but it might happen. If I can keep the children busy enough and dh gives me some knitting time, maybe I can make good progress so it won't be done more than a few weeks after Monday! LOL!

But sorry, there is nothing borrowed or blue to share!

Trying something new ....

Yes, this is one of those color by number kits.
I just had to have it. I don't know what came over me. I just grabbed it off the shelf and threw it into the cart!
As you can see I started a bit of it. I have to say, it is very relaxing to just color. I enjoyed working on it for the whole 5 uninterrupted minutes I got today!


Aside from coloring a bit today, I finished the sleeve to ballet sweater for dd while the kids ran around at the park and babyboy sat on a blanket near me snacking. I also made two swatched that I said I was going to do a few weekends ago and never did. One of them is too big right now, and the other is perfect. I will wash and recheck gauge tomorrow. I hope after washing they both are perfect because I'm trying to use yarn I already own in an effort to save money and my marriage as my dh just might not appreciate me buying more yarn when I have several boxes of it here already and had him take several to storage the other day. So crossing fingers it works, and if it doesn't, well they items I'm knitting for gifts, so really, he can't get mad at me for that. It will be cheaper to buy the yarn then to buy a gift from the store! Well, that will be my excuse anyway ;-)

Progress ...

Well there is one sleeve done for my oldest sweater ... however, when we looked at one of the finished front pieces the other day, I'm really thinking it won't fit her afterall. Which will make me cry!
Crossing fingers that it fits and that I can finish is *very soon!
